What to wear for my corporate headshot?
What to wear for my corporate headshot? This the the most popular question my clients ask prior to their professional headshot session. There isn’t a one sized fits all answer here but I will give you some ideas so you have a better understanding what might work best for you.
Corporate Headshots of Women
Because of accessories women often have a little bit more to think about. Let’s start with clothing. If you are wearing a jacket, which is usually recommended, the shade should be mid-tone to dark. Grey, forest green, navy blue, and even black are good choices. A jacket on the darker side with a lighter shirt makes for a powerful looking portrait. A dark jacket with a darker shirt also works great if there is enough contrast like the second business portrait below. Earrings and a necklace that don’t take over the picture is also a nice touch.
A thin chain with a small pendant always works. Sometimes women like to match up their accessories by matching the colors with their shirt. This might take some planning but when done right it really brings the business portrait together. A lot of our clients, both men and women often get three different poses and use them for different reasons. One for their company’s website, one for LinkedIn and one for a press releases.
Make Up
Make-up should be applied the same when meeting a potential client for the first time. Don’t try to cover up any blemishes, after all, that’s what Photoshop is for. Once in a while women over due it with the make-up and I often am taking out a lot of blush in Photoshop. Keeping the make subtle is what I suggest.

Corporate Headshots of Men
What to wear for my corporate headshot?
Depending upon what you do for a living, and how many hats you wear, it might be a good idea for you to end up with a few different looks. For instance, if you are a trial lawyer but are also on the speaking circuit then you may want a different look for each brand. The one that you use for your company’s website you will want to be dressed as if you were in the court room.
The business portrait use for the speaking circuit could be more of a casual portrait, perhaps with a jacket without a tie and maybe a little bit more of an edge to the lighting. For me, over the years one of biggest pet peeves is a lot of men tie a weak knot. If you are wearing a spread collar make sure you have a thick power knot like the two executive portraits below. YouTube is a great place to learn how to tie different type of knots for different types of collars. Men seem to fluctuate in weight more then women for whatever reason. As a result their jackets don’t always fit well. It’s important to wear your a jacket that fits well.
