Should I get a Corporate Headshot??

There are many reasons why everyone executive and entrepreneur needs a corporate headshot. Let’s start with the studies. “A series of experiments by Princeton psychologists Janine Willis and Alexander Todorov reveal that all it takes is a tenth of a second to form an impression of a stranger. From their face, longer exposures don’t significantly alter those impressions (although they might boost your confidence in your judgments). Their research is presented in their article “First Impressions,” in the July issue of  Psychological Science.” This article can be read here Association for Psychological Science.

You are Your Headshot

Did you Google, Do I Need a Corporate Headshot?  The answer is absolutely. Yes, that’s right, you are your headshot. It’s a big part of your brand. If your headshot is well crafted, people will perceive you as organized and trustworthy. On the other side, if your headshot looks unprofessional, people will perceive you as such.

There will always be the DIY types that will always try and take their headshot or have a friend do it. We all know these types of people. They never seem to get out of their way in life. They are also the same people that try to sell their own house to save a few bucks instead of hiring a realtor. Furthermore, like a website, in most cases, you are better off not having a headshot at all on LinkedIn than having a bad one.

Be smart, you worked hard to get where you are in your career. Let the world know that you take your career seriously, and a professional headshot will help you with that.

What Do I do with my Business Portrait?

Many of our clients are always surprised how many platforms their business portrait is valuable. Social media profiles, email signatures, company websites, personal blogs, and traditional print marketing are just places where you will display your professional headshot.

Professional Headshots in your Email Signature, Another Reason Why You Need a Corporate Headshot

Isn’t it nice when you email someone and see their professional business portrait in their email signature? It’s always a pleasant surprise when you receive an email, and you can put a face to the person. Furthermore, it’s also quick to develop a rapport with someone; when people can put a face to the name, it makes them feel that they know you already. As a result, you shouldn’t put any picture in your email signature; consider having a professional corporate headshot in your email signature.

Professional LinkedIn Profile Pictures

Do You Need a Corporate Headshot? If you aren’t active on LinkedIn, then you are missing many opportunities. If you are, I hope you have a solid LinkedIn profile picture. Did you know that people get twenty-one percent more profile views when they have a professional headshot as their profile picture? Besides doing the obvious, engaging on LinkedIn with post and replying to posts, having a solid LinkedIn profile picture will help you get more attention. It’s a hard pill to swallow, however, people will judge you by the quality of your LinkedIn profile picture. I know, that’s isn’t right and people can be judgmental. However, let’s face the facts, that’s the facts of life. Furthermore, when you have a solid business portrait people will more likely take you as an industry leader and take what you have to say more seriously.

Traditional Marketing, Billboards, Printed Newsletters, Business Cards

Yes that’s right, traditional marketing. Companies still do it an and so should you. There have been manycorporate photography times where I’ve drove passed a billboard that cost fifteen thousand dollars for three months and the business portrait they are using is terrible. I can’t help to ponder how they spent all that money and didn’t shell out another $300.00 for a professional business portrait. As my dad use to say, “penny wise and dollar stupid.”

Even more interesting, when you receive a well crafted post card in the mail, the graphics look great, however, the person’s headshot is a snap shot on their front porch. I have to be honest, this frustrates me. You can find me screaming at the post card, yelling, you should have called me! There have been times where I’ve called these people and suggested having a professional headshot taken before their next post card run. If you are going to do costly traditional marketing and using a headshot, make sure it’s a good one. Someone’s first impression will determine if that post card goes on the fridge behind a magnet or in the trash can.

More reasons why you need a corporate headshot

Typically, headshots on websites are the biggest area for improvement for most businesses. How often do you go to the about our team  section on a website and besides a bad design, the headshots are even worst. Inconsistent headshots will lead potential clients a feeling concern. If one doesn’t care about their personal brand, why would they care about their client’s business or personal concerns.

A company headshot day is a great way to have consistent look across your about page on your website.  As a result, you can also have group photos taken which are great for the website and social media uses.

If you have a blog on your website, and I hope you do, you can have your teammates write blog post on their area of expertise and use their headshot picture on their blog post. It’s another reason why you need a corporate headshot. As you can see, there are many ways to incorporate your corporate headshot.
