Corporate Headshots Vs. Business Portraits

I get asked all the time what’s the difference between corporate headshots vs.  business portraits.

A corporate headshot is typically a head and shoulder type portrait that starts from the mid-chest area to a little bit on top of the head. The overall feel for a corporate headshot usually depends on the overall goal.

Corporate Headshots

Business Portraits vs Corporate HeadshotsAlthough a corporate headshot seems straightforward at first glance, that is not necessarily the case when appropriately photographed. As simple as a business headshot seems, the lighting and types of clothing will dramatically change the feeling of the picture. Often, it depends upon what you do for a living that will determine how your headshot should look. If you are an entrepreneur, speaker, artist, marketer, then you may go for a more artsy dramatic feel. On the other hand, if you are a CPA, lawyer, or doctor, you might go more with a feeling that isn’t too theatrical. However, every circumstance varies. The debate of Corporate Headshots vs. Executive Portraits can easily be settled by having both taken during the same session.

Business Portraits

Business portraits are often taken with a background other than a studio-type backdrop. A section of yourBusiness Portraits office, the common area of your building, and at times, we take the portrait session outside. Furthermore, props such as a desk in a boardroom or an office chair impact the portrait. Some samples of what I am talking about are below.

High-level executives often have a business portrait taken for various reasons—annual reports, trade magazines, and company announcements, to name a few.
