Men, let’s start the discussion

New Jersey Corporate Headshots of Men

Are you Tying one on Properly?

Men, let’s start the discussion. It’s simple, a man appears to have his act together when they know how to tie a proper knot. I know this by talking to thousands of executives throughout my corporate head-shot career.  A nice solid knot is important for both your head-shot (if this is the route you’re going) and your personal brand. If you are wearing a spread collar this is even more important. This is the time to go with the double Windsor and get that power knot working for you. Those who tie a good knot always notices those who don’t. This is especially important if a potential client or  employer notices the flimsy knot that you’re sporting. What if I told you that some men judge other men by how their knots look.  The same goes with the shoes and watch you wear. However, that’s for another blog post. After all, I am a head-shot photographer and knot (see what I did there) fashion stylist. Since most headshots are typically taken above waste I will focus on that.  The business portrait you see on this page is a good example of a Windsor knot with a spread collar. There is nothing weak about it.

Personal Branding

Like I mentioned above, I came to these conclusions by the discussions I have had when photographing executives throughout the years. Whether it’s the tie you wear, how well your suit fits, the watch or shoes that you are sporting, it’s all part of your personal brand. The details matter. This of course includes the picture that you are using on your LinkedIn profile and your company’s website.  When everything is tied together people will take you more seriously when you post, comment in groups, and when you comment on other posts.  Recruiters will also take notice.

I hope this blog post helps and you a start tying a knot that you are proud of.

I included a few YouTube videos to get you through these murky waters of what knot to tie.

This first video isn’t a tutorial but it’s accurate. It explains when to go with the Windsor knot and the four in hand.  There’s are two other tutorials right below the first video on how to tie these power knots.
